Aktywność ludzi w internecie i poza nim pozwala na zebranie wielu danych, które mogą zostać poddane analizie i ocenie bez udziału człowieka. Od kilku lat rozwijane są w Chinach systemy wykorzystujące sztuczną inteligencję, w których człowiek jest oceniany automatycznie na podstawie bliżej nieokreślonych danych publicznych i prywatnych. Przedmiotem procesu legislacyjnego w Europie jest tzw. social scoring, bowiem nowe rozwiązania technologiczne istotnie naruszają prawa i wolności człowieka.
